Starlink is a satellite internet constellation being constructed by Elon Musk’s SpaceX providing satellite Internet access. Your house can be connected to a satellite via a dish on your roof, this satellite is connected to a much larger satellite dish at a local “ground station” (Starlink has six of these currently in New Zealand). These ground stations are connected by the fibre network into the global internet.
Starlink is changing things quite a bit, satellite internet as a service is currently best suited to those living in rural areas where fibre is not available.
Before going down the satellite internet path make sure you check out your own situation by identifying services specifically available at your address. It's important you think about what kind of performance you’ll need from your internet provider based on what you will be using it for.
